Gout, popularly known as the “disease of the kings,” is a disease that develops against the background of metabolic disorders. In 75% of cases, the joints of the foot are affected. More often the disease affects people of advanced age. But statistical studies indicate its significant rejuvenation. At risk are men after forty years. Less commonly, women experience menopause.
Gout is a progressive pathology caused by a high concentration of uric acid in the body. Uric acid is a product of purine metabolism. Its excess leads to the accumulation of salts in joints and tissues.
A healthy body removes urates (uric acid derivatives) using excretory systems or engages in other metabolic processes. With a violation of the functions of the body, uric acid is delayed. This becomes the cause of many pathologies.
A distinctive feature of gout is the formation of growths in the joints of the arms and legs, which provoke intense pain.
According to clinical indicators, 7 forms of the course of the disease are distinguished:
- Gouty arthritis. It has the classic symptoms of gout in the form of a sudden sharp pain.
- Infectious and allergic form. It manifests itself as a consequence of infectious diseases.
